History's strangest true stories, straight from the archives.
Oddly Declassified is a YouTube Shorts channel that tells true, surprising stories from history, war, space and science — in under a minute.
How it works
- Every story is checked against Wikipedia and the primary sources it cites (government archives, NASA, museums, published records) before it is made.
- Images come from public-domain archives (U.S. National Archives, NASA, the Library of Congress, Wikimedia Commons, Openverse) and free-licence photo libraries (Pixabay). We do not use AI-generated images.
- Sources and photo credits are listed under every video.
- Narration is generated with text-to-speech and disclosed as synthetic audio on YouTube.
What we don't do
- We don't make up "behind the scenes" stories. If a claim can't be traced to a source, it isn't in the video.
- We don't use movie, TV or game footage.
